I am the clinical lead for Endometriosis, outpatient hysteroscopic sterilisation and the Regional Preceptor for advanced Hysteroscopic Surgery. I am also the Head of Department.

Undergraduate training in the UK and USA lead to specialist training in the north of England culminating in advanced gynaecological surgery in Newcastle.

Appointed as a substantive full-time consultant in gynaecological surgery in 2011. I am a core member of the cancer and colposcopy teams, deputy lead for gynaecological cancer for Newcastle Hospitals and lead for endometriosis.

Developments and key specialist areas since appointment include:

Establishing outpatient sterilisation - a minor procedure that is very well tolerated by women attending the clinic. Establishing Newcastle as one of a small number of nationally recognized centres for endometriosis management and surgery (Royal College of Gynaecologists) – this is supported by a specialist clinic , specilaist nurse and multidisciplinary surgical team. Development of conservative laparoscopic surgery for fibroids (laparoscopic myomectomy and transcervical bipolar resection myomectomy). Principle Investigator for portfolio research studies such as Quality of Life research into treatments for Heavy Menstrual Bleeding. HEALTH Trial, comparison of sub total hysterectomy to simple endometrial ablation.

I am a course director for advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery attracting delegates from all over the world.

I am a member of: Royal College of Obstetric and Gynaecology (RCOG); British and European Societies of Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE/ESGE); Society of European Robotic Gynaecological Surgeons (SERGS); British Society of Colposcopy (BSCCP); Faculty of Family Planning and Reproductive Health (DFFP).
