- Hashem Abu Serhan, MBBS, MD, FICO, FIOF, CertRCOphth, Department of Ophthalmology, Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha-Qatar. He has special interests in education, teaching, and research. Ranked #1 in Qatar in Ophthalmology for Publications and H-Index (Medical & Health Sciences), according to the global AD Scientific Index. Named a touch OPHTHALMOLOGY Future Leader 2026, nominated by peers for his outstanding contributions to ophthalmic education and global knowledge dissemination. He is an associate editor in 4 journals like Eye Open, the official journal of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He is a peer reviewer in more than 25 journals, including top ophthalmology journals like the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Eye, the British Journal of Ophthalmology and the American Journal of Ophthalmology. He has over 220 published papers, most in Q1 journals. He has authored a book on the fundamentals of cataract surgery, officially announced on CataractCoach.com, and another titled Basic Foundational Notes to Operate Vitreoretinal Surgery, featured on RetinaRounds.com.
In addition, he serves as the lead editor of Robotic-Assisted Eye Surgery: Advances, Challenges, and Breakthroughs, published by Taylor & Francis (The world’s first-ever book exclusively dedicated to robotic eye surgery), and co-authored a book on infectious agents in ophthalmology. He presented abstracts and posters in highly prestigious local and international meetings, including ASCRS, ESCRS, AAO, EURETINA, ARVO, EVRS, ESO, APAO ...etc. He received many awards including The Young Scientest award by YU Alumni Club. He is an emerging vision scientist at Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Medicine.
